A devastating incident unfolded at BJ Medical College on Monday afternoon when 19-year-old Jiya Daki took her own life in her hostel room. The tragedy occurred on what was supposed to be a celebratory day—her birthday.
Jiya, originally from Keshod in Junagadh, had just begun her journey in medical studies, being only in the second semester of her first MBBS year. On that fateful day, she chose not to attend classes and instead remained in her room, telling her roommate she would join later.
Concern arose around 4:15 PM when hostel authorities discovered her lifeless body hanging from the ceiling fan. They promptly alerted the police, who arrived at Devi Girls Hostel near Civil Hospital.
During their investigation, officers found a three-page suicide note addressed to Jiya’s mother. In it, she conveyed feelings of failure and loneliness, apologizing for not being a good daughter. She expressed deep sadness over her struggles to form friendships despite others’ efforts to connect with her.
This heartbreaking event has sent shockwaves through the college community. Dean Meenakshi Parikh did not respond to requests for comments regarding this tragic loss.
