Even as Gujarat grapples with soaring temperatures and dry weather, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted a spell of unseasonal rain and thundershowers in parts of the state beginning April 19.
Rain Forecast Across RegionsBetween April 19 and April 20, light to moderate rainfall accompanied by thundershowers is likely at isolated locations, particularly in Sabarkantha, Aravalli, Dahod, Mahisagar, Panchmahal, Amreli, and Bhavnagar. Other regions are expected to largely remain dry during this period.
Weather System Behind the ChangeThe shift in weather is being driven by an upper air cyclonic circulation over southeast Pakistan and adjoining Rajasthan, extending up to 1.5 km above mean sea level. This system is expected to bring in moisture and create localised instability, triggering pre-monsoon-like rainfall activity.
Heat and Humidity to Persist Before RainPrior to the rainfall, hot and humid conditions are expected to prevail, especially in coastal areas and the Saurashtra-Kutch region from April 14 to April 18. High humidity levels are likely to add to discomfort.
Maximum temperatures may continue to exceed 40°C in isolated areas over the next five days. In the last 24 hours, Rajkot recorded the highest temperature at 42.4°C, well above normal levels.
In Ahmedabad and nearby areas, clear skies are expected until the morning of April 15, with maximum temperatures likely to hover around 40°C
