In a significant crackdown on illegal alcohol trade, Ahmedabad police have seized a massive haul of over 7,300 bottles of liquor across two operations. The first raid took place at a transport godown in Sarkhej, where officers confiscated 5,600 bottles concealed in barrels labeled as chemical consignments.
According to police reports, the liquor stash was valued at more than ₹10 lakh. The barrels—initially thought to contain hazardous materials like acid—had been shipped from Vasai, near Mumbai. They were meant for delivery to a company in Gujarat.
The operation unfolded when Akash Amaratbhai Bharwad arrived to collect the suspicious shipment for transportation to Gandhidham in Kutch. During questioning, he revealed he’d received a call from an unknown individual who offered him the job.
This seizure highlights ongoing efforts against alcohol smuggling networks operating in the region. Police are currently investigating further to uncover those behind this operation.
In a related incident, the Police Control Branch intercepted another vehicle near Naroda and seized 1,785 bottles of liquor and beer cans worth around ₹5 lakh. Authorities suspect that this consignment is linked to a bootlegger based in Rajasthan.
