A late-night birthday party in Vejalpur turned into a police case after officers raided a flat and found a group of youngsters allegedly consuming liquor without a valid permit.
According to police, the incident took place in the early hours of April 12 at a flat in Srinandnagar on Sonal Road. A PCR team received a call around 2:01 am about a disturbance caused by people reportedly under the influence of alcohol.
Police reached the flat and found men and women sitting together, with liquor bottles, beer cans and glasses scattered around. Several empty and partly used bottles of Indian-made foreign liquor and beer were recovered, along with some sealed bottles.
Officials said the people present appeared to be intoxicated. During questioning, the tenant, a 35-year-old woman from Nagaland, said she had organised the party for her birthday and invited friends. She also reportedly told police that the liquor was arranged through an acquaintance who is yet to be caught.
A total of 10 people were identified at the party, including residents from Ahmedabad and others from Rajasthan, Nagaland and Assam. Police also seized some mobile phones during the raid.
Since none of them could show a valid permit for alcohol consumption, police registered a case under the Gujarat Prohibition Act for illegal possession and drinking of liquor.
Liquor bottles, beer cans and other items worth over ₹1 lakh, along with mobile phones, have been seized as evidence. Police are now investigating the source of the liquor and whether a larger network is involved.
