Seven pilgrims lost their lives and four others were injured after a truck hit them on the Lakhtar–Viramgam highway. The group was walking as part of a foot pilgrimage.
The victims are believed to be from Gatka village in Rajkot district. The accident happened around 1:20 am when a truck, trying to overtake a stationary punctured truck, ran into the pilgrims.
All the victims belonged to the Bharwad community and were heading towards a temple in Viramgam as part of a pilgrimage organised by the Mundhva family. Among the deceased, there were two men and five women.
