After a short spell of unseasonal rain, Gujarat is back to intense summer heat. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a yellow alert for heatwave conditions in parts of the state, especially Saurashtra, Kutch and coastal areas like Diu, Daman and Dadra Nagar Haveli.
Temperatures have already crossed 40°C in many cities and are expected to rise further. Officials said there is no chance of rain anywhere in Gujarat for the next seven days.
Ahmedabad recorded 40.7°C, slightly above normal, and the temperature may rise to around 43°C this week. Nights are also getting warmer, with the minimum temperature at 25.7°C. According to IMD data, daytime temperatures are likely to stay between 42°C and 43°C till April 18, with clear skies and no major weather changes.
In other parts of the state, Rajkot recorded 41.7°C and Surendranagar 41.4°C. Gandhinagar saw 40.2°C, Vadodara 40.4°C and V V Nagar 40.3°C. In Kutch, Bhuj and Kandla also recorded around 40.7°C. Coastal cities like Surat (38.9°C), Dwarka (30.8°C) and Veraval (31.4°C) were slightly cooler but remained uncomfortable due to humidity.
An IMD official said temperatures may rise by another 2–3°C in the next 48 hours. Heatwave conditions are likely in parts of Kutch, while coastal areas will continue to face hot and humid weather.
Doctors have advised people to be careful as heat-related illnesses are increasing. Cases of dehydration, heat exhaustion and headaches are already being reported, especially among those going out in the afternoon without protection.
Humidity in Ahmedabad will range between 10% and 40%, leading to mostly dry heat, though some days may feel uncomfortable. April 14, 15 and 18 are expected to be the hottest days, with temperatures touching around 43°C.
With no relief expected soon, residents should prepare for a hot and dry week ahead.
