More than 60 people fell ill in Rajpura village of Detroj taluka in Ahmedabad district after allegedly consuming contaminated prasad during a religious event.
The incident took place on the night of April 8, when sev-khamani was served. Soon after eating, several villagers reported symptoms such as vomiting, nausea, and dizziness, causing panic in the area.
Children and elderly persons were among those affected. The patients were rushed to Bhagyoday Hospital in Kadi and nearby private hospitals, where they are undergoing treatment. Most are said to be in stable condition.
Health teams from Detroj and the food and drugs department reached the spot and began an investigation. Food samples have been collected for testing, and the quality of drinking water is also being checked.
The incident has raised concerns among locals, with authorities advising people to be cautious about food consumption and seek immediate medical help if symptoms appear.
This comes close on the heels of similar incidents in Ahmedabad, including the hospitalisation of 60 girls due to suspected food poisoning at a hostel and a separate case in Chandkheda where two children reportedly died after consuming suspected contaminated food.
