The 2026–27 academic year is set to bring a major expansion for Gujarat Technological University (GTU), with an additional 5,375 seats approved across affiliated colleges. The total intake will rise from 93,563 seats in 2025–26 to 98,938 seats this year.
The number of GTU-affiliated institutes will also grow significantly, increasing from 468 to 509 colleges.
Course-wise, B Pharmacy leads the expansion with 10 new colleges, followed by BBA (8), and MBA and BCA with seven each. MCA will see six new institutes, while Diploma Engineering and D Pharmacy will add two colleges each. Diploma Architecture will have one new institute. The number of colleges offering Architecture, Interior Design, and Hotel Management and Catering Technology (HMCT) remains unchanged, while engineering colleges will decline by two.
In terms of seat growth, Diploma Engineering records the highest increase with 1,110 additional seats. BCA (+960) and BBA (+810) reflect rising demand in IT and management fields. Engineering courses, despite fewer colleges, will add 630 seats, indicating higher intake capacity per institute.
Among professional programmes, MBA seats will increase by 585 and MCA by 450. Pharmacy courses will also expand, with B Pharmacy adding 670 seats and D Pharmacy 120 seats. Smaller increases include 40 additional seats in Diploma Architecture, while Architecture, Interior Design, and HMCT remain stable.
GTU registrar K N Kher said the university has issued no objection certificates to these institutes. However, final approval will depend on evaluation of infrastructure, faculty, and other facilities. Affiliation will be granted as per deadlines set by AICTE and relevant regulatory councils.
