Members of the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) staged a protest at the Gujarat University campus on Thursday, highlighting multiple issues faced by hostel students.
Students complained about dry taps, poor cleanliness, and the lack of water coolers and RO drinking water facilities in hostel premises. The protest was triggered by growing frustration over irregular water supply in recent days, which caused significant inconvenience, especially during the ongoing summer heat.
ABVP members also pointed out that several hostel blocks lacked functional RO systems, forcing students to depend on inadequate alternative arrangements.
Responding to the protest, Gujarat University registrar Piyush Patel said the issue was caused by technical problems during borewell repair work, which had disrupted water supply over the past two days. He added that the repairs have now been completed and water supply has been restored in the boys’ hostel blocks.
As a temporary measure, the university will provide 20-litre bottles of purified drinking water to students until RO-enabled water coolers become operational.
The administration has also directed authorities to improve cleanliness and maintenance across hostel blocks, including B, C, D, and G+9, with officials tasked to closely monitor hygiene standards in the premises.
