“Ramayana” First Look: Ranbir Kapoor Shines in Divine Avatar of Lord Ram

The global film landscape is set to witness a major moment as producer Namit Malhotra and director Nitesh Tiwari unveiled the first look of their ambitious two-part epic “Ramayana”. The reveal has drawn widespread attention, with Ranbir Kapoor stepping into the role of Rama, presenting a contemporary take on one of mythology’s most enduring figures.

Backed by Prime Focus Studios in collaboration with DNEG and Monster Mind Creations, the film is being positioned as one of the most technologically advanced and culturally significant projects in Indian cinema.

The “Rama” teaser, launched globally, marks a key moment for audiences, spotlighting a story that has resonated for over 5,000 years. While it offers a fresh perspective for those familiar with the epic, it also introduces the narrative to new viewers on a grand cinematic scale.

At the heart of the story is Rama — a hero defined by his choices. Known as ‘Maryada Purushottam’, he represents the highest ideals of human conduct, embodying duty, sacrifice, compassion, and moral clarity even in the face of exile and adversity.

Speaking about the film, Tiwari said the strength of “Ramayana” lies in its emotional depth, focusing not just on the battle between good and evil, but on the weight of choices and consequences. Kapoor, reflecting on his role, described the experience as humbling, adding that he approached the character as a learner rather than someone attempting to represent him.

“Ramayana: Part 1” traces the journey of Vishnu’s incarnation as Rama, born as a prince to restore balance in the world. The narrative follows his life in Ayodhya with Sita (Sai Pallavi) and Lakshman (Ravie Dubey), before circumstances lead to exile and a confrontation with Ravana, played by Yash.

The film brings together a high-profile cast, including Sunny Deol as Hanuman, alongside Kapoor and Yash in pivotal roles.

On the technical front, the project features music by Oscar-winning composers Hans Zimmer and A. R. Rahman. Production design is handled by Ravi Bansal and Ramsey Avery, while action sequences are led by Terry Notary and Guy Norris.

“Ramayana: Part 1” is scheduled for a global theatrical release during Diwali 2026, with Part 2 already in production and expected to release during Diwali 2027.

Rooted in one of the world’s oldest epics, “Ramayana” continues to hold deep cultural significance. The story’s defining moment—Rama’s return to Ayodhya—is celebrated as Diwali, symbolising the triumph of light over darkness, a theme that remains timeless across generations.
