Jamnagar Brass Industry Hit by Gulf Tensions; 80% Units Shut Over Gas Shortage

The ongoing Gulf conflict has dealt a major blow to Jamnagar’s brass industry, with nearly 80% of units shutting down due to shortages of industrial gas and raw materials.

Disruptions in global supply chains over the past 15–20 days have impacted imports of raw materials from countries such as the UK, the US, and Gulf nations, bringing production to a halt in one of India’s key brass manufacturing hubs.

Industrialists said the acute shortage of gas—essential for processes like shelling and extrusion—has pushed the sector to the brink, affecting the livelihoods of thousands of workers.

According to industry data, more than 450 manufacturing units have suspended operations amid the crisis. These units require over 13,000 commercial gas cylinders to resume production.

The district administration has sought details from industry stakeholders to assess the extent of the disruption and gauge gas requirements.

In response to the situation, representatives of the Jamnagar Chamber of Commerce, Jamnagar Factory Association, and Dared GIDC Plot and Shed Holders Association held an urgent meeting with officials at the Collector’s office, highlighting the severe shortage of gas and raw materials and seeking immediate intervention.

Officials from the District Industries Centre and the supply department assured that steps would be taken to restore gas supply and meet the industry’s needs at the earliest.
