At least five people suffered burn injuries after a suspected gas cylinder explosion triggered a fire inside a house in the Chamundanagar area of Naranpura in Ahmedabad early Tuesday morning, officials said.
Teams from the Ahmedabad Fire and Emergency Services rushed to the spot and brought the blaze under control, preventing it from spreading to nearby houses in the densely populated locality. With the help of local residents and the 108 emergency service, the injured were shifted to Sola Civil Hospital.
Divisional Fire Officer Swastik Jadeja said preliminary findings suggest that a gas leak inside the house led to the accumulation of combustible gas, which later ignited and caused a powerful explosion. “The fire team reached promptly and controlled the flames. Locals reported a sudden blast followed by a fire that injured five people inside the room,” he said.
Officials added that the injured are not believed to be local residents, and their identities could not be immediately confirmed as no relatives were present at the scene.
During the inspection, a gas cylinder was found empty but still connected to a stove, indicating a possible leak. Authorities suspect the accumulated gas may have ignited during early morning activity, leading to the explosion.
The blast caused significant structural damage, blowing off the door and shattering nearby window panes, while also triggering panic among residents in the neighbourhood.
Further investigation is underway to ascertain the exact cause of the incident, officials said.
