Adesar, Kutch: In a tense late-night operation, police rescued eight to nine labourers stranded in the perilous Little Rann of Kutch. They’d been without food or water for hours.
The group was making their way from Saurashtra in a Bolero pickup truck, hoping to take a shortcut through the desert between Tikar and Palaswa. But around 4 PM on March 21, their adventure turned dire when the vehicle got stuck in the marshy ground.
Stranded for several hours, the labourers had to endure sweltering heat during the day and plummeting temperatures at night. With no supplies, conditions were harsh.
Upon learning of their situation, Adesar Police Station quickly sprang into action. A team led by PSI V.A. Sengal—with officers Jaydeepsinh Jadeja, Babulal, and Vanrajbhai—began a rescue mission. Local youth from Palaswa village also joined in. Key volunteers included Ramabhai Bharwad and his brothers Shaktabhai and Munnabhai Bharwad along with Ranchhodbhai Bharwad.
After an extensive search through the vast expanse of desert terrain, they found the stranded group around 2 AM and ensured everyone was brought back to safety.
In light of this incident, local officials are urging caution among travelers. “The Rann’s terrain is extremely deceptive,” noted one representative. “People should strictly avoid such shortcuts.” Fortunately for those rescued, they managed to survive an ordeal that could have ended much worse.
