Gandhinagar: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a yellow alert across Gujarat due to expected rain and thunderstorms over the next few days. This comes after a slight drop in temperatures, giving residents hope for some relief from ongoing heat.
Forecasts predict light rain along with thunderstorms in several districts including Kutch, Banaskantha, Patan, Morbi, Jamnagar, Devbhumi Dwarka, Navsari, Tapi, Dang, and Valsad. The alert covers the Union Territories of Daman and Dadra & Nagar Haveli as well. The initial period of rain is expected within the next 24 hours ending at 8:30 AM on March 19.
On March 19 itself, the IMD anticipates more widespread thunderstorm activity across all districts of Gujarat. Then on March 20, isolated rainfall is likely in areas like Kutch and Sabarkantha.
As of today’s weather report from 8:30 AM IST on March 18, maximum temperatures in cities remained slightly below normal levels. Ahmedabad recorded a high of 36.7°C while Rajkot sweltered at a warmer 38.5°C. Coastal towns such as Surat reported milder temperatures.
No rainfall was recorded in the last day but officials say that the upcoming storms may provide much-needed respite from the heat wave affecting parts of Gujarat.
