The Gujarat Government has announced it will enhance its urban transport infrastructure by ordering 10 new metro trainsets for the Ahmedabad Metro Phase-II. This decision is part of a larger order of 34 trainsets, all manufactured in Titagarh, Kolkata, marking a significant step towards India’s self-reliance in high-tech public transport.
Currently, the Ahmedabad Metro Phase-II spans a network of 68.2 kilometers connecting Ahmedabad and Gandhinagar, with 32 trainsets already operational. The introduction of these additional trainsets is expected to increase the frequency of services significantly, allowing passengers to spend less time waiting for trains and improving their overall travel experience.
In total, Gujarat’s metro rail system extends across 108 kilometers and is projected to grow to an impressive 190 kilometers in the coming years. This expansion includes a pre-planned airport line measuring 6.04 kilometers that promises to boost connectivity even further.
Future plans include extending metro services to other major cities like Rajkot and Vadodara, aiming to provide modern and eco-friendly transport options to even more citizens across the state.
The new trainsets are set to feature advanced driverless technology aimed at ensuring safety and energy efficiency. Equipped with real-time monitoring systems, automated braking technologies, optimized speed profiles, and intelligent fault diagnostics, these systems promise reliable service. Safety features such as CCTV surveillance and fire detection systems will help ensure a secure journey for all passengers.
Officials noted that these innovations position Gujarat’s metro network as a benchmark for modern urban transportation solutions.
