Surat — Starting March 1, the Indian Railways replaced the outdated UTS app with the new Rail One mobile application for season pass holders traveling on local and MEMU trains between Vadodara, Bharuch, Surat, Vapi, and Mumbai.
Passengers still using the old app risk facing penalties during ticket checks. A recent incident involving a woman named Sarita Dhuri underscores the urgency of this switch. While traveling, Sarita’s UTS app failed to open when checked by a ticket examiner (TTE). Despite having a valid season pass, she was fined ₹330 for not displaying her ticket. Although she managed to open the app later and confirm her validity, railway regulations prevented any refund for the penalty.
A Western Railway ticket checker explained the situation succinctly: “We have to check tickets of hundreds of passengers. It’s not possible to wait for one person until the app opens.” The process is strict; if a passenger can’t show their ticket on-site, they must receive a penalty receipt immediately.
Officials are encouraging all commuters to swiftly move their season passes from UTS to Rail One. They highlighted that once issued, no refunds will be provided under any circumstances after a fine is imposed. To assist passengers in transferring their passes quickly and easily, here’s how:
- Download the Rail One app from your device’s Play Store.
- Log in using your registered mobile number.
- Select Season Pass Transfer from the menu.
- Input your season pass number or details from UTS.
This transfer process should be completed as soon as possible to avoid unnecessary penalties. Daily commuters are especially urged not to delay making this transition.
