Ahmedabad is set for a major road upgrade, as the Amdavad Municipal Corporation (AMC) has announced plans to revamp the stretch from Ognaj Circle to Rishi Dadhichi Bridge. The project, which will cost ₹121 crore, involves the redevelopment of about 10.23 kilometers of key arterial roads and access routes.
The design work is led by HCP Design, Planning and Management Pvt. Ltd., utilizing the AMC Street Design philosophy. Key features will include new asphalt carriageways, dedicated pedestrian walkways with broom-finish surfaces, and epoxy-acrylic resin cycle tracks.
Additionally, a robust stormwater drainage system will be installed along with modern street lighting on both 4-metre and 8-metre poles. These poles will have single and double arms for effective illumination.
Before construction kicks off fully, the selected contractor must create complete mock-ups for all street elements—this includes paving, kerbing, and street furniture—which will need approval from the Principal Architect and Engineer-in-Charge.
Green initiatives are also central to this project. Plans involve planting medium- and small-height trees alongside shrubs like hibiscus and bougainvillea. And there’s a focus on adhering to specific guidelines for relocating existing trees within the corridor.
As traffic flow in this urban area is vital, the contractor must work closely with City Traffic Police throughout construction to manage vehicle movement effectively. Temporary safety measures like barricades and “work in progress” signs will be implemented for commuter safety during this extensive redevelopment effort.
