Big News for Metro Riders!
So, the Union Cabinet just gave the green light for this new metro extension—like, seriously how exciting is that? The north-south corridor is gonna stretch from GIFT City all the way to Shahpur, which honestly? That’s a game changer. This stretch will be about 3.33 kilometers long and they’re setting up three elevated stations too.
The price tag for this whole thing? A whopping Rs 1,067.35 crore. And guess what? They’re aiming to wrap it up in just four years! That’s gotta be good news for over 20,000 folks living in five nearby villages who’ll benefit from easier access to transport.
Once it’s done and dusted, this will bring the total length of Ahmedabad’s metro rail system to a neat 71.61 km. Right now? We’ve got the Phase I north-south corridor from APMC to Motera Stadium kicking off at 68.28 km and then there’s East-West Corridor covering Thaltej Gam to Vastral Gam. Oh—and don’t forget about Phase II that goes from Motera Stadium to Mahatma Mandir among other spots—53 stations are already operational since September ’22 and early ’26!
Ngl, around 1.6 lakh people are using it every day which is wild! But wait, there’s more! GMRC has plans for an extension all the way to the airport—yup—a solid 6-km route starting from Koteshwar with six additional stations on deck so that should definitely ease things up a bit.
They’ve even kicked off work to move lines and get that viaduct sorted out, so let’s keep an eye on how fast they can push things through!
