The Gujarat Government has approached the National Tiger Conservation Authority (NTCA) seeking permission to introduce a tigress into the state, Forest and Environment Minister Arjun Modhwadia informed the Assembly on Friday.
The move gains significance as a male tiger has already established its presence in the Ratanmahal Wildlife Sanctuary in Dahod district.In a written reply to a question raised by Congress MLA Jignesh Mevani, Modhwadia stated that the state government had submitted a representation to the NTCA on November 24, 2025, requesting approval to bring a tigress to Gujarat. He added that the proposal is currently under consideration by the central authority.
Last November, the minister had announced that a wandering male tiger, first captured on camera in February 2025, had settled in the Ratanmahal forest area of Dahod district
