Gujarat earmarks 14,265 crore for Home department; major push to Dial 112, police housing

The Gujarat government has allocated a record ₹14,265 crore to the Home department, the highest ever, aiming to strengthen emergency response, police infrastructure and border security.

DGP and in-charge HOPF KLN Rao said the funding will help modernise the police force and improve public safety. “This will support modernisation and enhance citizen safety,” he noted.

Dial 112 expansion

A key focus is the expansion of the Dial 112 Janrakshak project. The government will add 250 vehicles and create 3,000 new posts for the emergency helpline to reduce response time. While Gujarat meets the national average of about eight minutes in some districts, it lags by around three minutes in others. Rao said the new resources are expected to bring response time down to eight minutes statewide. The move is also likely to generate employment for youth.

Major police housing project

The government will construct housing for 20,444 police personnel and officers. About ₹1,571 crore has been earmarked for the project, which officials say will be the largest police housing initiative in the country.

Anti-drone systems

To counter rising threats from unauthorised drones used in smuggling and espionage, ₹20 crore has been allocated to procure four advanced anti-drone systems.

Special vehicles for border areas

Additionally, 50 Special Operational Vehicles have been sanctioned for districts along interstate and international borders, with ₹9 crore set aside for the purchase.
