Police in Vadodara traced a bomb threat email sent to Bright School to an 11-year-old Class 5 student who allegedly issued the threat in an attempt to get school exams postponed.
City Police Commissioner Narsimha Komar said the email, which claimed a bomb had been planted on the school premises, was tracked to the IP address of the boy’s home computer, registered in his mother’s name. The school received the message around 5.30 pm on Tuesday, prompting a thorough search by police, bomb detection and disposal teams, and dog squads. No suspicious object was found, but students were sent home and security was tightened as a precaution.
During questioning, officials found that the child had panicked after sending the email and had even searched online to learn what punishment he could face if caught. Police recorded statements of his parents and issued the boy a warning before closing the investigation related to the school, while continuing to probe similar threat emails sent to other schools and the local court complex.
Authorities have urged citizens not to engage in such activities, stressing that bomb threats are serious offences that create public panic and divert critical security resources.
