The Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC) has introduced a citywide system for the collection and disposal of Construction and Demolition (C&D) waste to help control dust pollution.
Under the new initiative, residents carrying out repair, renovation, maintenance, or construction work can request doorstep collection of soil, rubble, and building debris by contacting their respective zonal control rooms. The Solid Waste Management Department will collect the debris at nominal charges and transport it to authorised disposal sites.
25 designated disposal sites
AMC has identified 25 disposal plots across seven zones — East, West, North, South, Central, North-West, and South-West — where citizens can dump construction waste at their own cost without any additional municipal fee.
Dumping debris on public roads, open plots, or unauthorised areas has been strictly prohibited. Officials warned that violators will face penalties and vehicles involved in illegal dumping may be seized. A dedicated cleanliness squad has also been formed to conduct inspections and ensure compliance.
Helpline numbers for collection
Residents can contact zonal control rooms between 8 am and 6 pm to arrange doorstep pickup:
- Central Zone – 6357516301
- North Zone – 6357516302
- South Zone – 6357516303
- East Zone – 6357516304
- West Zone – 6357516305
- North-West Zone – 6357516306
- South-West Zone – 6357516307
Authorities said penalties and charges will be recovered if debris is not cleared within the stipulated time or is found dumped illegally.
Modern centres to control dust
AMC has also set up modern C&D waste collection centres equipped with mist systems that spray fine water droplets to prevent dust from spreading in the air. The civic body said the initiative is expected to significantly reduce airborne dust and improve overall air quality in the city, urging residents to cooperate and avoid dumping debris on roads or open spaces.
