In Bharuch, the district administration has begun work to upgrade a major link road into the city’s first six-lane corridor. As part of the plan, an encroachment removal drive was conducted on Thursday along the stretch from Shaktinath Circle to Shravan Chowkdi.
Officials from the Roads and Buildings (R&B) Department cleared illegal structures built on government land on both sides of the road. Compound walls constructed on public land near the Swaminarayan Temple and Modheshwari Mata Temple were demolished using JCB machines.
Authorities said around 15 metres of land on each side from the road’s centre line will be cleared to widen the stretch. Thursday’s action marked the third phase of the encroachment removal drive.
In addition to road widening, an 800-metre RCC drainage line will be constructed on both sides of the road at an estimated cost of ₹3.59 crore. The tender has already been approved and work is expected to begin shortly.
Officials stated that the new drainage system will help prevent waterlogging during the monsoon by ensuring proper rainwater flow from the road and nearby residential areas.
Once the land clearance and drainage work are completed, the R&B Department will move ahead with converting the road into a full six-lane carriageway.
