Sri Lanka is set to launch a direct flight connecting Ahmedabad and Colombo later this year, aiming to boost tourism and strengthen ties with Gujarat.
According to reports in Sri Lankan media, Deputy Tourism Minister Ruwan Ranasinghe announced that Sri Lankan Airlines plans to start direct flights from Ahmedabad to Colombo from April.
The move comes amid a steady rise in the number of Gujarati tourists visiting Sri Lanka in recent years. The new route is expected to improve connectivity, promote tourism and facilitate travel for Sri Lankan devotees visiting religious sites in Gujarat.
Media reports also highlighted that India remains Sri Lanka’s top source market for tourists. SriLankan Airlines is expanding its India network and aims to operate up to 100 weekly flights to India by 2026, with Ahmedabad being a key addition to its expansion plans.
