Amdavad Municipal Corporation Unveils Draft Budget
The Amdavad Municipal Corporation (AMC) announced its draft budget for the financial year 2026-27 today, presenting a total outlay of ₹17,018 crore. Municipal Commissioner Banchhanidhi Pani outlined key initiatives aimed at enhancing city infrastructure and addressing environmental concerns.
Budget Breakdown
The draft budget includes a revenue expenditure of ₹7,150 crore and a capital expenditure of ₹9,868 crore. Pani emphasized the importance of sustainable development across various sectors, including climate resilience, public transport, and social infrastructure.
Climate and Environmental Initiatives
- Water and Wastewater Management: Allocations include ₹1,402.87 crore for rehabilitation works, ₹474 crore for new water distribution stations, and ₹604 crore for sewage treatment plants.
- Storm Water and Flood Management: The budget earmarks ₹472.71 crore for flood-proofing projects and ₹80 crore for lakefront developments.
- Clean Air Mission: Initiatives include air pollution control devices at 50 traffic junctions, with a total allocation of ₹17.5 crore.
Mobility and Transport Enhancements
- Public Transport Development: An Adaptive Traffic Control System will receive ₹899 crore, while a multimodal transport hub is budgeted for ₹980 crore.
- Road Infrastructure: The budget includes ₹865 crore for precinct development and ₹700 crore for road development.
Social Infrastructure Investments
- Healthcare and Emergency Services: Funding of ₹105 crore will support the establishment of four new community health centers.
- Housing and Education: A significant allocation of ₹1,440 crore aims to provide over 50,000 slum-free housing units.
City Development and Beautification
Additional allocations include ₹692 crore for city squares and ₹964.25 crore for precinct development and iconic roads. Notably, there will be no increase in property tax this year, despite a provision for a 2% annual tax hike included in previous budgets.
The draft budget reflects AMC’s commitment to fostering sustainable growth and improving the quality of urban life in Ahmedabad. The proposals will undergo further discussion before final approval.
