Security agencies were placed on high alert after Jamnagar Airport received a bomb threat via email from an unidentified sender on Tuesday, just hours after Indian cricketer Hardik Pandya had departed from the airport.
Soon after the threat was received, the Jamnagar Airport Authority informed local police and senior officials. District Superintendent of Police Dr Ravi Mohan Saini, Deputy SP Jayvirsinh Zala, along with teams from the Local Crime Branch (LCB) and Special Operations Group (SOG), rushed to the airport to assess the situation.
As the airport operates under Indian Air Force control, the threat was treated with the highest level of seriousness. The entire airport premises were cordoned off and a thorough search was carried out by bomb disposal and dog squads across the terminal building, runway and parking areas.
Security checks for passengers and luggage were intensified, and the entry of unauthorised persons into the airport was completely restricted. As a precaution, fire tenders and ambulances were kept on standby. Senior Army and Air Force officials also closely monitored the situation, with heightened movement seen at the airport.
Meanwhile, airport authorities, police and the cyber cell have launched an investigation to trace the source of the threatening email.
Officials noted that Jamnagar Airport has received similar bomb threats in the past, including in cases involving foreign flights, which later turned out to be hoaxes after detailed checks. However, they said the current threat is being handled with full seriousness, and enhanced security measures will remain in place until the situation is thoroughly reviewed and declared safe.
