The National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET), which serves as the gateway for several courses after Class 12, is set to undergo a change in Gujarat from 2026.
Officials said admissions to physiotherapy and occupational therapy courses will now be conducted through the NEET-based process. The move follows recommendations made by the National Commission for Allied Healthcare Professionals (NCAHP) to the National Testing Agency (NTA), which conducts NEET.
At present, NEET is used for admissions to medical, dental, ayurveda and homoeopathy courses. The commission has recommended that physiotherapy and occupational therapy be added to this list. It also stated that candidates seeking admission to physiotherapy must have secured at least 50% aggregate marks in physics, chemistry and biology (botany or zoology) in Class 12, while the requirement is 40% for reserved category students.
With this change, the Medical Admission Committee will handle admissions for six courses — medical, dental, ayurveda, homoeopathy, physiotherapy and occupational therapy. Currently, admissions to physiotherapy and occupational therapy are conducted by the Para Medical Admission Committee.
