To create awareness about the dangers of Chinese manjha during Uttarayan, the District Education Officer (DEO) has directed schools to administer a pledge against the use and storage of Chinese manjha, tukkal and similar hazardous materials.
The pledge will be taken by students in schools on Wednesday. The move aims to educate children about the risks these products pose to humans, animals and birds, and to encourage responsible celebration of festivals.
In a circular issued on Tuesday, DEO R.M. Chaudhari stated that while festivals hold cultural and religious significance, it is a collective moral responsibility to ensure that celebrations do not cause harm to people, wildlife or the environment. He stressed that no festival should result in accidents or loss of life.
The circular also highlighted that Chinese manjha and tukkal are extremely dangerous and have been banned by the National Green Tribunal. It warned that the sale, use and storage of these items are illegal and punishable under the law.
