Filmmaker and choreographer Farah Khan is at the centre of the buzz around The 50, a new large-scale reality show set to launch in India on February 1. The show will stream on JioHotstar and will also be telecast on Colors.
The promotional video opens with Farah Khan standing before a massive poster that reads, “Badalne waali hai reality shows ki reality.” In her trademark witty style, she questions why she was not invited to what is being promoted as India’s biggest reality show. The promo then introduces the mysterious host, The Lion, setting the tone for a bold and unconventional format.
Produced by Banijay Asia, The 50 is the Indian adaptation of a popular international reality franchise. The show promises a massive scale, a large number of contestants and intense challenges, with constant competition and little room for comfort or relaxation.
Having judged and worked on several reality shows over the years, Farah Khan believes The 50 will change how audiences view reality television. Speaking about the show, she said that Indian reality formats have followed a predictable pattern for a long time, and The 50 is set to break that mould. According to her, the unprecedented scale, high-pressure environment and nonstop uncertainty make the show intense, unpredictable and exciting.
The 50 will premiere on February 1, with episodes available on JioHotstar and airing on Colors for television viewers. The makers describe it as a bigger, bolder reality experience, featuring large sets, demanding tasks and constantly shifting rules designed to keep both contestants and audiences on edge.
With growing anticipation ahead of its release, The 50 aims to offer a fresh and high-stakes addition to India’s reality TV landscape, driven by scale, tension and unpredictability, and guided by the intriguing presence of The Lion.
