GSRTC Increases Bus Fares by 3% Across Gujarat

The Gujarat State Road Transport Corporation (GSRTC) has announced a 3 per cent hike in bus fares across the state, which will come into effect from January 9, 2025. The move is aimed at strengthening public transport services and improving the corporation’s financial health.

GSRTC officials said the revised fares will apply to all services operating within Gujarat. The decision has been taken to ensure the long-term sustainability of the transport network while continuing to offer dependable and affordable travel options to passengers.

At present, GSRTC operates more than 8,000 buses, covering over 32 lakh kilometres daily and serving nearly 29 lakh passengers every day. The corporation plays a vital role in connecting urban and rural regions and continues to provide uninterrupted services even during emergencies such as floods, cyclones, fires and pandemics.

Officials also clarified that existing fare concessions for students, senior citizens, journalists, persons with disabilities, freedom fighters, government employees and other eligible categories will remain unchanged.

Over the past 14 months, GSRTC has added 1,485 new BS-6 compliant buses with modern facilities, including sleeper coaches, luxury and semi-luxury buses, super deluxe services and mini buses. In addition, 13 new bus stations and depots have been developed in the last year, benefitting around 10 lakh passengers daily.

To improve passenger convenience and encourage cashless travel, GSRTC has rolled out digital ticketing in cities such as Ahmedabad, Rajkot, Jamnagar and Junagadh, deploying nearly 3,000 electronic ticket machines so far. The corporation plans to introduce another 4,700 machines in the coming months.

Despite the fare increase, GSRTC fares continue to be lower than those in neighbouring states, officials said, reaffirming the corporation’s commitment to providing efficient and affordable public transport across Gujarat.
