An FIR has been registered at the Airport Police Station after a handwritten bomb threat note was found inside an IndiGo aircraft operating the Goa–Ahmedabad flight on December 18. The threat triggered a major security alert and delayed flight operations for several hours.
According to the FIR, IndiGo flight 6E 6208 took off from Goa at 5.47 pm and was scheduled to land in Ahmedabad at 7.25 pm. While the aircraft was in the air, an unidentified person allegedly wrote threatening messages on tissue papers inside the aircraft lavatory between 5.47 pm and around 6.30 pm.
Police said a tissue paper found in the front washroom carried the message “YOU ALL DIE,” written in English with a black pen. Two more tissue papers were later recovered from near another lavatory, bearing the message “BOMB ON PLANE.” Investigators believe the messages were deliberately written despite the accused knowing there was no bomb on board, with the intention of creating panic and endangering flight safety.
The complaint was filed by Pareshbhai Prakashbhai Mansukhani (39), an Assistant Security Manager with IndiGo, currently posted at Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International Airport, Ahmedabad. He stated that while on duty, he received a call at 7.27 pm from the flight manager informing him about the bomb threat.
After the aircraft landed in Ahmedabad, it was moved to an isolation bay as per standard procedures. A Bomb Threat Committee meeting was held at Terminal-1, and the threat was officially declared at 8.08 pm. All passengers were safely deboarded, and their baggage was thoroughly checked by the CISF. The aircraft was searched by the Bomb Detection and Disposal Squad, dog squad, CISF personnel and IndiGo’s internal security team.
No explosive or suspicious material was found during the checks, police said.
The tissue papers with the threatening messages were handed over for forensic examination. Handwriting samples and signatures of all passengers on board have been collected, and the notes have been sent to the Forensic Science Laboratory for analysis to identify the culprit.
Due to the security alert, the aircraft’s onward flight to Kolkata scheduled for 8 pm was cancelled, causing a delay of nearly five hours and disruption to services.
Police have registered a case against an unknown person for issuing a false bomb threat and endangering aircraft safety. Statements of the pilot, co-pilot, cabin crew, security staff and other officials are being recorded, and passenger and crew details have been sought as part of the investigation.
