A series of bomb threat emails sent to multiple schools across Ahmedabad on Wednesday morning caused panic and led to the evacuation of students, as police, fire services and bomb disposal teams launched extensive search operations.
Police said schools that received the threatening emails included Zydus School of Excellence in the Vejalpur–Jivraj Park area, Zebar School for Children, Maharaja Agrasen Vidyalaya and DAV International School. Similar emails were later reported by Nirman School, Gems Genesis International School, Divine Child School and Avishkar School.
Officials said the first alert was received around 10 am, following which local police teams rushed to the schools. Personnel from the Special Operations Group (SOG), Bomb Detection and Disposal Squad (BDDS), dog squad and the fire department were deployed as a precaution, while ambulances and fire tenders were kept on standby.
Details of the threat email
According to police sources, the emails were sent from an overseas email address early in the morning. The subject line mentioned a bomb threat, claiming explosions would occur around 1.11 pm. The message referred to alleged blasts in Ahmedabad and included provocative political and extremist language, along with threats aimed at prominent public figures.
Police said the email appeared to be designed to spread fear, though its authenticity has not yet been confirmed. Technical teams are analysing the email to trace its origin.
Evacuation and security checks
Vejalpur police said Zydus School of Excellence alerted authorities immediately after receiving the email. Students and staff were safely evacuated, and a thorough search of the campus was conducted. Similar evacuation measures were carried out at other schools, with management announcing early dismissal to ensure student safety.
School premises were cordoned off to allow security agencies to conduct detailed checks. Senior fire department officials were present at several locations to coordinate emergency response and preparedness.
No threat detected so far
Police confirmed that no suspicious objects or explosives have been found at any of the schools so far. Searches are continuing as a precautionary measure.
Cybercrime teams are investigating the source of the emails by analysing technical details to determine whether the threats were hoaxes or part of a coordinated attempt to create panic by targeting multiple schools.
The incident caused concern among parents, many of whom rushed to school premises after learning about the evacuations. Police have urged the public to remain calm and avoid spreading unverified information, while security has been heightened at schools and other sensitive locations across the city.
