A 17-year-old girl was safely rescued on Saturday morning after she allegedly attempted to jump from the 15th floor of a residential high-rise in Surat’s Althan area following a heated phone argument with her mother.
The incident occurred at Swimm Palace, where the girl, a native of Madhya Pradesh and currently working as a domestic help at a doctor’s residence, went to the terrace in a distressed state and stood on the ledge, threatening to jump. Her actions caused panic among residents and people in the vicinity, who gathered below fearing an untoward incident.
According to sources, the teenager had an argument with her mother over marriage-related issues. During the conversation, her mother allegedly made a remark that deeply hurt the girl, prompting her to go to the terrace.Residents of the building tried to counsel her, with some reminding her of daily prayers, while the building owner assured her that her marriage concerns would be addressed if she came down safely.
The Vesu Fire Station team and the 112 Jan Rakshak team rushed to the spot with a hydraulic lift. Initially, the girl became more agitated and warned she would jump if anyone came close. Fire officer Kirti Modh and the rescue team handled the situation cautiously, keeping her engaged in conversation.
Taking advantage of a moment, the lift operator managed to secure her from behind and bring her to safety.The timely intervention by the fire brigade and emergency response teams prevented a tragedy.
