Many passport applicants often forget to carry original documents such as Aadhaar, PAN or driving licence during their appointment, leading to their applications being put on hold. To address this, the Passport Office has introduced a new feature under the Passport 2.0 software that allows applicants to submit their DigiLocker documents even before their appointment.
According to officials at the Regional Passport Office (RPO), which handles around 3,300 new and renewal applications daily, DigiLocker documents were earlier accepted only if they were linked at the time of applying. If applicants failed to submit DigiLocker details and did not bring original documents, their applications were kept pending.
With the new ‘My Application’ feature, applicants can now upload their DigiLocker documents anytime before taking the appointment token—even if they forgot to link them during the initial application. Officials say this will significantly reduce the number of cases kept on hold and make the passport issuance process faster and smoother.
