Traffic around RTO Circle came to a standstill on Thursday after the Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC) abruptly closed Subhash Bridge for five days for a detailed structural inspection. The move caused major peak-hour congestion as commuters scrambled for alternate routes.
AMC said the 50-year-old bridge needs repair and was shut after experts found structural damage. All vehicles are now being diverted to Dadhichi Bridge until the inspection is complete. Officials have urged commuters to follow diversions and plan travel accordingly.
Alternate routes:
- From Chandkheda/Sabarmati: via Ranip D-Mart → Vadaj → Dadhichi Bridge towards Delhi Darwaja, Shahibaug, Asarwa Civil Hospital.
- Another option: Bhat–Koteshwar Road → Indira Bridge → Airport Circle → Asarwa Civil Hospital.
- From Shahibaug: divert at Shahibaug underbridge → railway bridge → Namaste Circle → Kendriya Vidyalay cut → Devjipura Circle → Meldi Mata Circle → Dadhichi Bridge → Vadaj → Ranip D-Mart.
