Law Garden Khau Gali is back to its old charm after 45 long-time vendors regained their original spots following a five-year legal battle with the Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC). The dispute began in 2019 when the area was converted into a ‘Happy Street’ with high-rent pitches for food trucks, pushing many traditional vendors out.
The vendors approached the Gujarat High Court under the Street Vendors Act, arguing for suitable space. AMC’s initial relocation site was rejected as unsuitable, and after the court disposed of the case, the corporation agreed to let them return to Law Garden under a revised rent plan.
All 45 vendors have resumed business, bringing back the iconic flavours of Pav Bhaji, Pulav, Chana Puri, Sandwiches, Bhakri Pizza, Desi Chinese, chaat, and Panipuri. A popular spot for nearly five decades, Law Garden Khau Gali remains organised, with seating on one side and parking on the other—restoring its vibrant street-food culture for the next generation.
