DigiLocker, the government’s digital document storage app, has added a new feature that lets users access their Passport Verification Record (PVR) directly on the platform. The update aims to make passport-related processes faster, easier and fully digital.
What’s New?
Passport holders can now view their verification details in DigiLocker without visiting a Passport Seva Kendra or handling physical documents. The PVR appears like any other digital document, reducing paperwork and making it easier to share verified details when needed.
Why It Matters
Saves time: No need to store or collect physical verification papers.
More secure: The PVR is issued digitally, reducing risk of tampering or errors.
Useful for jobs & travel: Background checks, onboarding and visa processes become quicker with instant access to verified passport data.
Boosts digital governance: Strengthens India’s push for paperless and secure online public services.
Strengthening DigiLocker
DigiLocker already stores Aadhaar, PAN, driving licences, school certificates and vehicle registrations. Adding passport verification further increases its utility by allowing users to easily share trusted, government-issued identity data with employers, travel agencies and visa centres.
Initial Glitches
Some users may face delays or minor data mismatches. They are advised to verify the details once the PVR appears in their DigiLocker account.
The new feature marks a significant step toward streamlined, digital passport services and more seamless citizen verification across sectors.
