The Amdavad Municipal Corporation has started early preparations for the 2030 Commonwealth Games by clearing encroachments near major sports areas. On Saturday, around 30 residential and commercial structures in Sabarmati were demolished to widen a 24-metre road that leads to the Narendra Modi Stadium.
The West Zone Estate Department began the demolition early in the morning in the Tollnaka area, with police present to maintain order. The road-widening work is part of a larger plan to improve access around sports complexes and stadiums across the city.
Officials said wider roads are necessary to handle the heavy movement of athletes and spectators during the Games. Starting the work early will help avoid last-minute congestion and delays.
