The Amdavad Municipal Corporation (AMC) has fallen far behind on its promise to improve road infrastructure across the city. Four years after announcing the construction of 99 cement roads in 48 wards, only 37 have been completed.
The old city has been the most neglected. In Khadia ward, just one cement road has been built so far.
The ₹418-crore project, approved in the 2021–22 AMC budget and inspired by Bengaluru’s cement road model, was expected to bring major benefits—especially to heritage areas that earned Ahmedabad its UNESCO World Heritage City status eight years ago.
However, corporators from Khadia claim that only one road, in Jayendra Pandit Nagar, has been constructed to date, raising concerns about slow progress and uneven development across the city.
