Student unions NSUI and ABVP have demanded strict action against Gujarat Technological University (GTU) after it repeated last year’s exam paper for Semester 7 civil engineering students. The error came to light when the November 13 exam for the subject ‘Port and Harbour’ turned out to be an exact copy of the 2024 paper, with only the date changed.
Both unions accused GTU of negligence, claiming the mistake has undermined students’ academic credibility. Student leaders stormed Vice Chancellor Rajul Gajjar’s office, questioning her ability to oversee the university’s examination system, which has faced repeated issues.
ABVP has demanded the reinstatement of the moderator system to prevent such errors, while NSUI has warned of intensified protests if action is not taken.
GTU registrar K.N. Kher said the faculty responsible for setting the paper has been identified. Recommendations include recovering three years’ worth of exam-related remuneration and barring the faculty member from exam duties for the next two years. The Department of Technical Education has also been informed to initiate further action to prevent similar lapses in the future.
