Crraft of Art will return to Adalaj Ni Vav on November 23 with the 16th edition of its Water Festival, featuring an expanded line-up that includes Kabir Vani and Kathakali performances for the first time.
Founded by dancer Birwa Qureshi, Crraft of Art has spent over a decade revitalising India’s monuments through immersive cultural events, especially aimed at younger audiences. The Water Festival, set against the backdrop of the iconic Adalaj stepwell, blends architecture, music and storytelling.
“This 16-year journey is special for us,” said Qureshi. “The festival is our tribute to India’s architectural heritage. At Adalaj, we want audiences to experience history through soulful performances.”
Artistes performing this year
Ustad Fazal Qureshi will headline the evening with a collaborative set featuring Ambi Subramaniam, Stephen Devassy, Giridhar Udupa, Arun Kumar, Navin Sharma, Prithvi Samuel and Ilyas Khan.
Kabir Vani will be presented by Mir Mukhtiyar Ali, a 26th-generation Mirasi folk artiste known for his Sufi, Rajasthani and Kabir renditions. A Kathakali troupe from Kerala will also make its festival debut, bringing the classical dance-drama’s rich visual storytelling to the stepwell stage.
The event will be anchored by actor-performer Suchitra Pillai.As in past editions, the 15th-century stepwell will be enhanced with artistic lighting that highlights its intricate carvings and layered architecture.

With support from Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation, three special heritage experiences will also be offered:
