A 41-year-old Vadodara man has approached the Gujarat High Court seeking divorce, alleging that his wife’s obsession with stray dogs caused severe stress, leading to diabetes and erectile dysfunction. He has challenged a Vadodara family court’s order in the ongoing matrimonial dispute. The couple married in 2006.
In his appeal, the man claims marital discord began when his wife brought home a stray dog against his wishes and later added more. He alleges he was forced to cook, clean, and care for the animals, and was even bitten by one. Despite repeated requests, his wife allegedly refused to remove the dogs.
He further stated that after she joined an animal welfare group, she began filing animal cruelty complaints against others, which he says were used to intimidate him. The husband also accused her of subjecting him to public humiliation through a birthday prank, where a radio jockey called him on air pretending to be his secret lover. His wife later revealed it was an April Fool’s joke and allegedly threatened false dowry harassment cases if he tried to leave.
Amid the dispute, the husband’s counsel told the court that the wife is demanding a ₹2 crore settlement, while the husband is willing to offer ₹15 lakh, citing his job profile. The wife’s counsel countered that the cruelty allegations are unsubstantiated and claimed the husband has sufficient income and assets to pay more. The High Court has posted the matter for further hearing on December 1.
