In a major breakthrough in the Delhi blast case, investigators have revealed that the explosion near Red Fort was not part of the original plan but occurred accidentally after the terrorists panicked following the arrests of their associates and the exposure of the Faridabad module.
According to security agencies, the terror group had planned coordinated attacks on high-profile locations in New Delhi, including Sena Bhavan, the Air Force office, the BJP headquarters, and Parliament House Road. Their broader target list also included the Ayodhya Ram Temple and Kashi Vishwanath Temple. So far, around 1,500 people have been detained in connection with the probe.
Investigations further found that the suicide bomber, identified as Dr. Umar, did not possess enough explosive material to trigger a large-scale blast. The Red Fort explosion, officials said, was caused by a miscalculation. Over the past two years, the terror module had reportedly stockpiled large amounts of ammonium nitrate, preparing the final batch of explosives just 30 days before the incident.
Chats recovered from one of the arrested suspects, Dr. Shaheen, revealed code words used in communication — “Dawat” for a blast and “Biryani” for explosives. One message read, “Dawat ke liye biryani taiyar hai” (the explosives are ready for the attack).
The National Investigation Agency (NIA) has now formed a special team to lead a comprehensive probe into the car blast, which officials have linked to a Jaish-e-Mohammad (JeM) module. The case has also been connected to objectionable posters found in Naugam, Srinagar, on October 19, 2025, which led to the registration of an FIR.
Key arrests include Maulvi Irfan Ahmad Waghay from Shopian and Zamir Ahmad from Ganderbal, apprehended between October 20 and 27. Later, Dr. Adeel was arrested in Saharanpur on November 5, followed by the recovery of an AK-56 rifle and ammunition from Anantnag Hospital. On November 8, more arms and explosives were seized from Al-Falah Medical College in Faridabad, leading to the arrest of another suspect, Dr. Muzammil.
Subsequent raids uncovered massive quantities of explosives — including a 2,563-kg stockpile from the residence of Imam Hafeez Mohammad Ishtiyaq in Mewat and another 358 kg of bomb-making materials, detonators, and timers. In total, nearly 3,000 kilograms of explosives and related equipment have been recovered so far.
