Taking strong exception to the growing threat posed by stray animals, the Supreme Court has directed all States, Union Territories, and civic bodies to remove stray cattle from highways and roads to prevent accidents and ensure public safety.
The apex court further instructed authorities to form dedicated highway patrol units to capture and relocate stray animals to proper shelter homes. It also ordered the removal of stray dogs from public places such as schools, hospitals, bus terminals, and railway stations, emphasizing that they should not be released back after sterilisation.
The court underscored the need for a humane yet firm approach to managing the stray animal menace, calling for strict compliance with its directives to safeguard citizens and maintain public order.
