Flight operations at Delhi’s Indira Gandhi International Airport were severely affected on Friday morning after a technical glitch hit the Air Traffic Control (ATC) system, leading to delays in more than 400 flights.
Officials said the problem occurred in the Automatic Message Switching System (AMSS), which supplies flight plan data to the Auto Track System. With the system down, air traffic controllers were forced to process flight plans manually, causing congestion and delays across departures and arrivals.
The Airports Authority of India (AAI) said technical teams are working to restore the system at the earliest and thanked passengers for their patience.
As per flight-tracking data, over 300 departures and more than 100 arrivals were delayed, with average waiting times stretching up to 50 minutes. The issue reportedly began on Thursday afternoon and continued into Friday.
Airlines including IndiGo and Air India also informed passengers of delays due to the ATC glitch, advising them to check flight status updates before heading to the airport.
