The Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC) plans to widen the Raipur Darwaza–Kankaria Lakefront road in Khadia ward from the existing 15 metres to 25 metres to ease heavy traffic congestion on this busy stretch.
The project, part of the Revised Development Plan (RDP), targets the section between Ten Acres Mall and Vora na Roja, which often becomes a bottleneck—especially after the closure of Sarangpur Bridge for repairs, forcing commuters to use Khokhara Bridge.
The narrow road has also struggled to handle traffic during major events such as the Filmfare Awards and the Diwali rush at Kankaria Lakefront.
According to a survey by the Central Zone Estate Department, seven residential and 31 commercial properties, along with one religious structure and one public toilet, will be affected. Property owners will receive compensation as per AMC rules. No objections have been received to the widening plan so far, and a proposal has been submitted to the Standing Committee for approval.
In a separate move, AMC has proposed to declare an existing road in Bhaipura-Hatkeshwar ward, passing through one municipal and one private plot, as a public road under the GPMC Act.
