The Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC) has intensified its mosquito control efforts following recent rainfall, conducting a citywide inspection drive on Tuesday. During the operation, notices were issued to 215 units and administrative fines amounting to 4.86 lakh were collected. Eight sites were sealed for serious violations.
Health Department teams inspected 1,063 commercial and under-construction sites across all city zones to curb mosquito breeding and prevent the spread of vector-borne diseases. The South Zone saw the most inspections (308), followed by the East Zone (210). The South-West Zone recorded the highest number of notices (49), while the South Zone reported the largest fine collection of 1.14 lakh.
According to AMC officials, mosquito breeding was commonly detected in scrap material, flowerpots, overhead and underground water tanks, and unused containers such as buckets, tyres, and plastic items.
