Move to help MSMEs and young entrepreneurs with faster approvals
Getting a GST registration in Gujarat has become quicker as the Central Board of Indirect Taxes and Customs (CBIC) has introduced a new rule ensuring approval within three working days after Aadhaar verification and risk checks.
Under the new Rule 14A, applicants with a monthly tax liability below ₹2.5 lakh and who complete Aadhaar authentication will get instant electronic approval. This fast-track process applies only to those who do not hold another GST registration under the same PAN in the same state. Applicants can opt out later through Form GST REG-32.
With over 12.6 lakh active GST-registered taxpayers, Gujarat ranks among the top three states in India. The new system aims to help small traders, startups, and service providers by cutting long verification delays and reducing reliance on intermediaries.
Tax professionals say the move will help entrepreneurs “go legit faster,” allowing small business owners, home-based enterprises, and youth-led startups to start operations without waiting weeks for approval.
Officials from the SGST department said the policy will particularly benefit industries in Narol, Odhav, Vatva, Sanand, Rajkot, and Surat, as well as online sellers and service-based startups such as catering, e-commerce, logistics, and digital marketing.
