A three-year-old girl was seriously injured after being run over by a car allegedly driven by an unlicensed 15-year-old boy inside a residential society in Ahmedabad on Tuesday afternoon.
The incident took place around 1.15 pm at Shiv Bungalows in Noblenagar, Sardarnagar, when the child, Diva Sharma, was playing on the internal road. The car, driven recklessly, hit her, causing injuries to both legs, her left hand, and waist. She is currently receiving treatment at Sharda Hospital in Chandkheda.
According to police, the teenage driver from Nana Chiloda did not possess a valid driving licence and had reportedly taken the car without the owner’s permission.
Diva’s father, Chirag Sharma, a businessman from Gota, said he rushed to the hospital after receiving a call from his wife. “When I reached, Diva was bleeding and crying in pain,” he stated in his complaint.
Eyewitnesses, including Diva’s mother and a neighbour, told police that the car was speeding within the society premises. Following the complaint, G Traffic Police registered an FIR against the teenager for rash and negligent driving and driving without a licence. The car has been seized for forensic and mechanical examination.
An officer from G Traffic Police said the child is out of danger but has sustained multiple injuries. CCTV footage from the society is being reviewed to verify the sequence of events.
Residents of Shiv Bungalows expressed outrage over the incident and demanded stricter enforcement against reckless driving in housing societies. “Children play here every afternoon. This could have ended in tragedy,” said one resident.
Police said further action will depend on medical reports and witness statements.
