Adani Group to invest ₹42,500 crore more in Dighi Port expansion

Mumbai, Oct 27 (PTI): The Adani Group will invest an additional ₹42,500 crore to expand Dighi Port in Maharashtra’s Konkan region, according to state government officials.

Adani Ports and Special Economic Zone (APSEZ), which operates Dighi Port, signed an MoU with the Maharashtra government on Monday as part of the India Maritime Week.

Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis said the agreement is among 15 MoUs worth over ₹56,000 crore signed at the event’s opening day.The fresh commitment follows Adani Group’s 2021 acquisition of the bankrupt Dighi Port for ₹705 crore, when it had pledged ₹10,000 crore for expansion.

Fadnavis said the new investments cover port expansion, shipbuilding, and maritime technology, aiming to make Maharashtra a “maritime superpower.”Other key deals include JSW Group’s ₹3,709 crore investment at Jaigad Port, Chowgule Group’s ₹5,000 crore commitment in shipbuilding, and contributions from Synergy Shipbuilders and Goa Shipyard.

The government also plans to launch a ‘water taxi’ service connecting Navi Mumbai Airport — operated by Adani Group — to Mumbai’s Gateway of India, making it the first airport in India with such a facility.

Fadnavis added that the state is also developing a world-class marina in Mumbai and collaborating with IIT-Bombay for maritime training and skill development.

Foreign investors from the UAE, the Netherlands, and Sweden have also shown interest in Maharashtra’s maritime infrastructure projects.
